Champion Sires To The Fore In MDC Regional Finals

WHEN big time group 1 racing turns up, so too does the progeny of champion sires Barcia Bale and Fernando Bale, with this year's MDC no different.

WHEN big time racing turns up, so too does the progeny of champion sires Barcia Bale and Fernando Bale.

Just look at the results of the Million Dollar Chase regional finals to date.

On Tuesday night, Knight's Page (Barcia Bale-Nyxie) won at Gosford.

On Thursday, Kooringa Lucy (Fernando Bale-Mitcharlie Mia) downed her litter brother Burnt Ends to win at Casino.

Then later on Thursday, Xerri (Fernando Bale-Miss All Class) scored at Gunnedah before that night Winlock On Top (Fernando Bale-Glitzy Bling) was successful at Dapto.

And, with Barcia Bale champion son Simon Told Helen holding centre stage at Temora on Saturday night the onslaught appears certain to continue.

“The big race sires seem to be able to produce the goods when the big races come around,” said studmaster Paul Westerveld.

Westerveld says the COVID-19 price reduction of semen for Meticulous Lodge-based stud dogs had been a boon.

“Fernando has always been busy,” he said. “The demand for him has continued forever.

“But, Barcia went a little bit quiet for a while but the reduction for him has been a boost in recent times. Breeders are keen to utilise them both.

“A lot of stud dogs can throw fast dogs.

“But only some can produce the good constantly at the highest level.”

The Million Dollar Chase series is fast emerging at the very highest level.

And on Monday, Barcia Bale's highly promising son Flying Ricciardo, the recent Group 2 Black Top winner, heads to Bathurst to run in the regional final there coming off box eight.

It will be interesting to see just how many of the 64 Million Dollar Chase semi-finalists are sired by Barcia Bale and Fernando Bale.

By the early qualifying numbers expect it to be quite a few. A number set to only grow.
