Hallinan Dominance To The Fore In Group 1 Rampage

THE Zipping prefix which immediately identifies the Hallinan family's racing team is one of most famous in the land.

And it's exciting times for the crew at Clergate with 2019 Golden Easter Egg winner Zipping Bailey having her first litter of pups (by Zipping Garth) at breaking in stage.

But there is more to just the Hallinan's own progeny at their magnificent property (of some 200 acres) at Clergate, 10 kilometres north of Orange.

What the Hallinan family does best was emphatically showcased at Sandown on Thursday.

Take for example Thursday's Group 1 Sapphire Crown winner Wow She's Fast and Sandown Cup hero Untapped.

Each were reared at Clergate as was superstar Golden Easter Egg and Million Dollar chase winner She's A Pearl.

"There's a bit of a story behind those three," Martin Hallinan said.

"She's A Pearl was bred by Greg (Sprod) and Tyrone (Whittington) and left here to be broken in by Peter Sims.

"He then bought her after a maiden win and was sold sometime later.

"Wow She's Fast was bought by Greg and Tyrone as a baby. Just one out of a litter of eight– I think – and she was reared here with some of our own pups.

"Üntapped was part of the Sandown National Draft program which was in Ray Borda's name and we had a number of those draftees (reared) here."

Rearing is such a critical element of a greyhound's track potential.

Certainly, over generations, the Wheeler family stands alone for feature race success but theirs is a ‘private' process.

In a commercial sense, only Michael and Sean Dunphy's renowned Droopy's Stud in Ireland can even approach the Group race success the Hallinan family has richly deserved.

The performances of Wow She's Fast, Untapped and She's A Pearl underscores excellence and it's down to dedication.

"We treat every dog the same," Martin added, "it's a team effort … Fiona, Cameron, Damian and the full-time staff all put in long hours and it's nights like Thursday which make it all worthwhile.”
