“Minor” Injury Sidelines Wow She's Fast

BOOM juvenile Wow She’s Fast, winner of her first four starts in sublime style, will miss Thursday’s GRV Vic Bred Series Final at Sandown Park.

BOOM juvenile Wow She's Fast will miss Thursday's GRV Vic Bred Series Final (515m) at Sandown Park.

The much-hyped unbeaten youngster landed the fourth straight win to begin her career on Sunday when claiming her heat of the $10,750-to-the-winner series in a stylish 29.28.

That performance was hot on the heels of electrifying performances in 29.09, 29.39 and 29.32 at Sandown Park which returned an aggregate winning margin of a remarkable 45 lengths.

On Tuesday trainer Kel Greenough told the Greyhound Recorder that the 20-month-old daughter of My Bro Fabio would be scratched from Thursday's finale after coming out of her latest assignment with a couple of minor issues.

"If I had a week between the heats and final I'd be confident she'd be right to go but the short turnaround is against us," Greenough said.

"It's nothing major but enough just not to risk her. I had a good look over her on Monday and she didn't come out of the run Sunday as well as she did her first three.

"There's just a couple of minor muscle injuries in the calf and chest that will need a little time to work on. And I'm mindful of the interest in her and the short odds she'll be as well. The right thing to do is pull her out."

Such has been the tantalizing start to her career it was revealed earlier this month that Sportsbet had sounded out the Greenough-trained Wow She's Fast as their potential The Phoenix runner at The Meadows in December.

And while more than open to the idea, Greenough says his hugely exciting conveyance needs to continue her upward rise in the coming weeks.

"There's still a bit of time and plenty of water to go under the bridge," Greenough said.

"But I've liked what I've seen from her, especially at her past few runs where she's won even when things haven't gone exactly to plan.

"It's a bit strange, she's only 20-months and on Sunday she won her fourth race at Sandown in 29.28 and if anything I was a little disappointed.

"But seeing how sore she came out of the run now I know why. There's always a reason – you just need to find it."

While Wow She's Fast's omission from Thursday's final will be music to the ears of rival connections, Greenough expects the prodigious talent to be back racing soon.

"We'll look to go to a prelude of the Melbourne Cup in the next few weeks," Greenough said.

"And I might use the time to give her a look at The Meadows as well with The Phoenix in mind."

Race sponsor TAB currently has Wow She's Fast at $8 in The Phoenix betting while she is $10 in Melbourne Cup markets.
