Smith's Harada Pups Showing Plenty Of Promise

PREMIER NSW trainer Dave Smith is preparing a Good Odds Harada litter for racing which he believes will give the Million Dollar Chase winner an ideal start to his stud career.

And to add some further spice they'll likely begin racing while their famous father Good Odds Harada is still plying his trade on the track.

Smith's exciting litter is out of proven producer Red Sox Ethics the mother of a Barcia Bale litter that includes promising youngsters Cowgirl Ethics (6 wins, $17,000), Rodeo Ethics (8 wins, $21,000) and Calamity Ethics (5 wins, $14,000).

Cowgirl Ethics was second in the Group 3 Magic Maiden at Wentworth Park earlier in the year.

“The Good Odds Harada pups are perfect kennel dogs, very sensible and bigger pups than my damline generally produces,” Smith said.

“They all broke in really good and the first time we took them to Richmond they trialled between 15.29 and 15.50 from the puppy boxes. That is as good as I have ever had in any pups I have educated and trained.

“All seven of them are in the top 10 we've had at that same stage. It's pretty exciting.”

Smith has decided to give those pups plenty of differing education.

“I have not gone back to the same tracks to see the natural improvement, deciding on giving them looks at different tracks. They've already been to Wentworth Park for a box-to-box and impressed.”

Smith is not rushing the pups.

“It is a bit early to say they are stars, and a couple of them have had a minor injury, but they are all great chasing dogs and showing real potential,” he added.

“I'll definitely be using Good Odds Harada again especially after seeing what I'm seeing. He ticks every box as far as I'm concerned that you want in a sire.”

Smith has been breeding with his damline for the past 20 years tracing back to his own foundation bitch Good Ethics, a member of the famous Silver Cassie damline.
