Super Scrub Sets Sights On More Classics

Trainer Travis Elson has his sights set on a G1 target for exciting galloper Super Scrub after the dog claimed the biggest win of his career on Thursday.

TRAVIS Elson will head down the "Bear's Bullet program" with his latest Group winner Super Scrub after the dog led throughout to win the Brisbane Young Guns Final (520m) at Albion Park on Thursday night.

The Fernando Bale-Nan's Magic dog held off a determined late bid by Golden Bear to win narrowly in 30.21 seconds on a wet and slow track, with Kia Kaha in third.

Super Scrub, the winner of 13 of his 30 race starts and $78,000, will be pointed to the QGOLD series and the newly upgraded Group 1 Flying Amy Classic coming up at Albion Park during the Queensland Winter Greyhound Racing Carnival.

"Bear's Bullet went through both races last year and with his early pace, Super Scrub deserves to be in them as well," Travis, who bred and trains the dog for his wife Hope, said.

Super Scrub started at $15 and this amazed his trainer.

"I thought, with his early pace, he deserved to be about a $6 chance even though it was such a fabulous field," he said. "I was gobsmacked with the price.

"His early pace is fabulous.

"The wet track was against us all and that accounted for the slow time but, he is a sub 30-second winner around Albion Park.

"He really is a one-turn dog, possibly 470 metres his best distance."

Elson said he was confident the dog would race well when he drew wide in the Group 3 final.

"He likes to get a bit wide in his races and the seven suited him," he said.

"But, in my opinion, I didn't think anything else was drawn well in the final.

"The one and the two were drawn to cause each other trouble and that's what happened."

Elson, who has always been bullish about the Fernando Bale-Nan's Magic litter, says the best is yet to come from the litter.

"They have just turned two and there is plenty more to come in them," he said.

"Super Scrub's win was even better than it looked. He is much better on top of the ground and he got a very wet track last night and still won."
